A culture turning an individual into an icon is a trend exhibited throughout history. Whether it be religious or pop culture, icons give people something to grab onto, something to align themselves with or against or something to reference as I’m about to do. With the prevalence and access to mediated experiences in my life, I feel that I’ve often been filtering iconography. Usually, I’ll choose to embrace a perspective that naturally aligns with the values imprinted on me by my family, the hard wired and repeated code that you can’t escape. This discussion brings me to this clip of Michael Jordan. The ideas and values expressed in it aren’t about basketball. They’re about life. Apply it to anything you’re fighting for. Just a reminder.
